Going above and beyond or the extra yard are clichés for doing something beyond expectations. But I’ve always thought every cliché stems from some truth. So maybe there should be a better, more positive, word than “cliché.”

What I mean is the name of my freelance writing and editing efforts is now what some have told me is official for an online business entity.
Notice anything different? Me neither, but it feels kind of good. If you haven’t figured it out yet, McKibbin’s Scribblin’s is now a website instead of a blog. So, 2017 hasn’t exactly been my year. Like many people, from what I can gather, for a variety of reasons.
For me professionally, it’s been pretty frustrating. I knew setting out on a freelance writing journey would be a long one. My time most of this year involved research, job applications, setting up profiles on content mill sites that I quickly realized were not a good fit for me (or a lot of others, from what I keep reading) and taking a freelance opportunity that kept me in an industry I was trying to leave. We deal with a lot of frustration in life. Getting beyond the immediate consequences and deciding how to keep moving forward seems a bigger challenge each time.
Case in point: I applied for a copy editing position a few months ago, had a couple of interviews and was a finalist. But, as you guessed, someone else was offered the position.
It’s not the first time and likely won’t be the last. But every time it happens it seems to get harder to move in a direction I’m certain is the one I want to take.
